New ATI driver

June 26th, 2007 No comments

Published on Phoronix:

Hitting the web this afternoon was the AMD 8.38.6 display driver. Introduced in this driver was official Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 packaging scripts. Fixed in this driver was moving a video window between two monitors in a Big Desktop configuration no longer crashing the X.Org server and playing multiple videos when TexturedVideo is enabled no longer results in corruption.

To much dismay, the fglrx 8.38.6 display driver continues to have problems with X server 1.3 namely on Fedora 7. This driver will not work with Fedora 7 unless downgrading the X server. This driver also continues to lack support for AIGLX and Beryl/Compiz without the use of XGL. Finally, the 8.38.6 fglrx driver continues does not contain support for the ATI/AMD Radeon HD 2000 series.

The AMD 8.38.6 driver this month is rather dismal for the end user who has been craving support for AIGLX or just even to run the driver with Fedora 7 and other new distributions. However, hopefully in the coming driver releases we will have better news to report.

Here the next codenames for future ati driver:

8.38.6: The Least To Report On Driver In Two Years
8.38.6: Still no R600 or AIGLX Support
8.37.6: The no R600 or AIGLX Support Version
8.36.5: The Still no fglrx AIGLX Support Edition

Envy 0.9.3 STABLE adds the support for Etch

May 12th, 2007 No comments

envy
Envy is a wonderful application (written by an italian developer, of course P ) that’s useful to install nvidia and ati drivers.
I have to say I do not use it because I’ve learned how to install a driver before this software was written, but it is very useful, no doubt.
And now there is Etch support (there was only the Ubuntu one at the beginning).

ATI Committed To Fixing Its OSS Problems

May 10th, 2007 No comments

This news comes from the Red Hat Summit 2007 in San Diego, CA. Blizzard tell us Ati admits, through a marketing guy in that summit, they have problem with opensource so they have to fix it. But there aren’t other informations about HOW Ati wants to solve this problem.

Ati and Xorg upgrade…damn it!

October 29th, 2006 No comments

Yesterday I had a brilliant idea, update my Debian Etch amd64 codename Turk :sisi:
What a fucking ******!
Official Ati Drivers (current version 8.29.6) sux!

(EE) Module ABI major version (0) doesn't match the server's version (1)
(EE) Failed to load module "fglrx" (module requirement mismatch, 0)
(EE) no drivers available.

I’ve add this lines to xorg.conf

Section "ServerFlags"
Option "IgnoreABI" "True"
EndSection

So I’ve discovered the real problem: Xorg supported version 6.9,7.0 – Xorg 7.1 installed

I’m tring to downgrade the Xorg version but “I’m not able” to find packages, help me!

Get the Solution!
