Italia.it , the italian window on/in/between/etc the world…
No, it’s not a joke, I’m sorry. It is real…
The Italia.it project it’s not so recent, so when I saw the site, finally, I was hoping something smarter. Ok, let’s explore it.
So let’s digit italia.it and the first thing i saw? A flash intro! Oh I’m sorry, I thought i was connecting to an high accessibility site to find some information about Italy, not a movie site “on-the-theater-right-now”. So, now the problem is: “Ok, where I can see something more useful?” and Italia.it answers to this question in that way: you have to click on your language! But there is a interesting thing: ok I’m in Italy and I have to make, let’s say it in the worst possible words, an italian tourism portal, so I have to use many languages…they used 4 langagues, including italian 
, and they forgot french, which is just our neighbor so why am I thinking some of those baguettes-lovers wants to come in Italy. No, I’m the crazy one, not Rutelli (for the records, the Italian Tourism Minister).
Let’s say we choose english because the portal didn’t recognize automatically my language…oh my god…I think Microsoft have been guessing my language in a right way for 10 years till now.
Now I’m IN the site. Graphically it’s nice, even if I think I’ve never used orange and blue in that way, maybe they are daltonic, I don’t know.
On the top there is another flash windows where there is a button “Italian Lifestyle”…you have to click it! A screen appears, then Monica Bellucci talking about Italy…ok, let’s forget they use a song over her voice so you can understand nothing about what she’s saying…but for God’s sake…Rutelli! Are you insane?? You choose an italian woman who lives in France to talk about Italy? Are you serious? I’m 22 and I think she’s living there before I was born!
Now, before going ahead I have to say we’re in 2007 and there is the w3c standard. Rutelli…don’t you thing that a site which is “the italian windows on/in/between/etc the world” must respect the w3c standard? Your team used table, ok? Table!
You spend 100.000 euros to make that orrible logo, (my 10 years-old cousin could draw that for a nintendo ds game, not for 100.000 euros) and I do not want to know how much is the site only (the entire project costs 45 millions euros).
Now let’s talk about site usability: could you tell me why you’ve created just an information “bag”? You could just use Joomla if it was your purpose. It is free dear minister…
Can I give you an advice? Next time just call me or another guy from another tech blog…I will assure you we can do a better job…we’re born in internet, we know what are we talking about. See you.
