w32codecs ( medibuntu ) and converting rm to avi

Support for WMV, RealMedia and other formats has been bundled into the w32codecs package. This package is not available from the Ubuntu repositories due to licensing and legal restrictions.

Ubuntu: Bug using SATA hard-disk

My hd is a Matsushita and I’m having problem because my Load_Cycle_Count is growing too fast.
Apparently Ubuntu’s having some problem dealing with it because there is some crappy configuration in the /etc/acpi/power.sh

I have no time to explain it completely but I have a temporary solution.

Downgrade to Firefox 2 in Ubuntu

If you use many firefox extensions, then you can understand the meaning of this tutorial.
Many extensions, especially the “non-institutional” ones are not upgraded to firefox 3 so they do not work.

I was reading “The Flavor of the Month” on Full Circle Magazine Issue#11 March 2008 written by Robert Clipsham.
If you don’t know Full Circle Magazine you’re a bad guy. It is a really interesting magazine developed by Ubuntu Community and it’s very useful because you can find very interesting news and articles like this one I’ll talk about today.

Wajig, a new Debian way to manage packages

Wijig is a new way to imagine ( I’m a poet, you know | ) your Debian. It’s written using python and basically it’s an optimization of dpkg, apt, apt-cache and others tools. Actually Wijig runs them as subprocesses but in a smart way.
Actually final users don’t know which command is better to use in some situation and to be honest Debian doesn’t make things easy unless you RTFM! very deeply P

This news comes from Digg: Brian Kent is a prolific font designer. At 32 years old he’s already amassed an impressive collection of handmade fonts. He’s also a really nice guy and has agreed to let me package his free fonts for Ubuntu.
